Kingsleys Steak & Crabhouse

Wow it's been 2 weeks since I last blogged and yes, the guilt did creep in everytime I told myself "I'll do a post tomorrow...soon...when I get the time..." I have been so busy juggling uni and work that I never really took the time out to mention something significant - on the 3rd March 2013, JENisHUNGRY officially turned 1. M and I had to postpone our celebatory dinner for the happy occasion but it was all worth it once we seated outself next to Woolloomooloo Wharf, at Kingsleys Steak & Crahouse, ready to embask ourselves in our favourite food of all time - steak and crab!

Even though I am a steak lover, I am by no means an expert of the various parts of the meat - I generally try different cuts all the time. So a diagram as such on the menu can definitely prove to be useful and interesting. At Kingsleys, steak options are extensive and prices can range from $26.90 to $134.90. If only I could afford the latter :P

Seriously, my love for sourdough bread will never end. This batch was superb in its perfectly pillowy soft fillings and hard crunchy edges. The butter was also in top form as it spread gracefully with ease before dissolving in all its creaminess within your mouth. I could eat the whole loaf. Oh and I'll still take my steak order. Naturally.

As the name of the restaurant suggests CRABHOUSE - one can only assume you should order a crab dish. The Alaskan King Crab Legs 200g ($22.90) were served chilled on a bed of ice with a tartare sauce and was absolutely delicious. It may not look like much, but as an entree to share, we thoroughly enjoyed it. The crab meat was flavoursome in its salty-sweet scents, and even more tasty when you dipped it in the sauce. I would highly recommend ordering the bigger serving if you ever go (600g for $67.90) because you could seriously eat bucket loads of this and still refuse to leave crab heaven.

By the way, did I mention you get this cool crab-picking utencil so that it's easier for you to take out the crab meat. How considerate right? Or perhaps this is the standard professional practice for a crabhouse. M struggled with this utencil so much and although I did feel bad about laughing, I couldn't help it :P The trick is to hold the crab shell open (they usually slit it in the middle so doing this is not difficult) and pick it out in one go from the bottom so that you get a meaty piece of crab as a whole. M's attempts always resulted in shreds of crab meat here and there...

For our  mains, M ordered the 200g Eye Fillet ($37.90), pasture fed, grasslands, marble score 2+ with green peppercorn sauce. Ok it may look like a tiny blob in the picture but it was surprisingly very filling. The meat was a little too tough for my liking but M did enjoy it, especially with the green peppercorn sauce. The Mashed Desiree Potato ($7.90) was beautiful in its texture (not too solid, not too mushed) but could have used more flavour and creaminess.

My 350g Rib-Eye Scotch Fillet ($39.90) gave me a bit of shock when I saw the size of the serving - didn't realise how big 350g was! 120 day grain fed, Riverine Premium Beef with marble score 2+, this was a fabulous feed. I loved the slightly charcoaled edges with the juiciness of the tender meat inside. Each cut was made with ease and my choice of tomato chilli jam sauce was also pleasantly tasty with the flavour resembling that of a gourmet tomato sauce. Both steaks were a perfect medium rare.

For dessert, we shared the Chocolate Brownie Sundae ($13.50) pineapple, coconut sorbet, pecans, which was just as delectable as our entree and mains. Gorgeous chunks of brownie bites filled the glass and each was rich and luscious in its chocolatey flavour and chewy texture. The coconut sorbet was subtle yet beautifully refreshing with the chocolate. On the whole, a very enjoyable dessert that we demolished within minutes. As we are both not a fan of pineapple, we had asked for it to be left out.

Overall, both M and I enjoyed our dining experience at Kingsleys - food came out fast, service was professional, staff were attentive and everything was of high quality produce. In addition to that, if you're lucky enough to get a seat outside like we did (consequent of making a booking a few days beforehand), you get to enjoy the great outdoor ambience of dining by the Wharf. We went on an early Saturday evening and the weather was simply stunning, with a gentle breeze - managed to capture the beautiful shot below!

The great thing about Kingsleys is that it doesn't feel like a total formal dining affair - more of a casual fine dining experience, which can be much relaxing and comfortable than the former at times. Definitely a great place for a special occasion such as a blogiversary.

Thanks so much to everyone who supports my blog, especially M, my greatest supporter! :)
